# Heroes

## How do Heroes work?

A Hero leads the Party when you start in a Gauntlet. They represent a **Class** or **Kingdom** and wield powerful Ultimates that turn the tide of battle!

You start with a choice of a Base Hero at the beginning of the game.

You will be able unlock more Heroes as you play the game. Try them out in different strategies, rank up your favorites, and claim victory over your opponents!

## How do I unlock Heroes?

You can earn shards to unlock Heroes in the Trophy Trail & Seasonal Trophy Trail! Certain Heroes may also be available via the Battle Pass, Discord server, or in-game purchases.

To use your shard to unlock a Hero, visit the Heroes menu and find the unlockable Hero as indicated a glowing border. You can see details on how to obtain shard in this view as well.

## How do I rank up Heroes?

When you use a Hero, you gain additional scrolls for that Hero from the Gauntlet and Arenas. The rewards increase when you defeat more opponents in Arenas.

Once you have enough scrolls and coins, you can spend them to rank up your Hero in the Heroes menu. The benefits are three-fold:

* The Hero's Ultimate becomes slightly stronger.
* You obtain a relic at ranks 5 and 10.

Heroes can currently reach maximum rank of 10.
